Led by cardinal Arnaud de Via, nephew of Pope Jean XXII, a chapter of twelve canons was set up in his home in 1336, receiving his property as inheritence. Its chapel was extended to become the collegiate church of Notre-Dame and in 1350, the canons built the cloister and the belfry adjoining the church. The cloister to the north served the other monastic buildings. In 1792, the collegiate church became the parish church, replacing the church of Saint-Pons.
