Richerenches
Richerenches
The tourist service at Richerenches :
Prior to developing into a village, Richerenches was originally a Knights Templar Commandery. Free visit of the Templar House and the small museum of truffle & wine (opening hours are the same as the Tourist Office).
Visitors can learn all about this era through the informative signs which tell the tale of life in the city at the time of the knights. As you wander through Richerenches, see the Church, the Ramparts, and the Commandery with its western door crowned by the Clock Tower (17th century Campanile and nail-studded door).
Today, Richerenches has traded its Knights' robes for Chef's hats, and has been awarded the label of 'Site Remarquable du Goût' (Outstanding Good Taste Site) by the French Council for the Culinary Arts, for its renowned truffle market.
Don't miss: The famous Saint Antoine Mass in January (Saint Antoine is the patron saint of truffle growers), and the truffle market on Saturday mornings during winter.
