Cabrières-d'Avignon
Luberon Lavender Museum
The tourist service at Cabrières-d'Avignon :
Based in an old Provençal stone house, the Lavender Museum is a must for all nature lovers interested in true fine lavender. The Lincelé Family began this fabulous project in 1991, inviting visitors to discover the true lavender of Provence, "fine lavender".Every weekday from May to September, the museum runs creative activities relating to the sense of smell.
The visit takes you through a vast collection of lavender stills from the 16th century to present day, and is commented in 11 foreign languages on the audio-guides, leaving visitors free to visit the museum in keeping with their interests.
See all the rooms, the collections, the projection room with documentaries filmed at the Chateau du Bois at the base of Mont-Ventoux, on planting, harvesting and the distillation of fine lavender from Haute Provence.
Allow yourself one hour for the visit, to take full advantage of the fragrance and virtues of lavender.
There is also a shop offering an exclusive line of natural cosmetics. This high-quality 'Chateau du Bois' line features AOC essential oil of fine lavender.
To further share his passion, Jack Lincelé organises distillation of lavandin every year from 1 July to 25 August in an open-flame still from the 1900's. An interesting and fun opportunity to see distillation, and meet other visitors, the distiller and the gardeners from the Luberon who bring their lavandin in for distilling.
The museum has been given the 'Tourisme et Handicap' label to certify its accessibility for disabled persons in terms of motor, aural, visual and mental.
Audioguide available free of charge in French, English, Italian, German, Chinese, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, and Japanese.
Free admission for under 11's.
Group rate for groups over 20. Guided visits for groups only.
Also available: a variety of high-quality products for beauty and skincare, well-being, and the home.
