Le Jardin de la Basse Fontaine
The tourist service at Puyméras :
Jean-Paul Boyer did not wait to receive the official 'Jardin remarquable' (Remarkable Garden) label, before transforming the perimeter of his house into a series of enchanting and astonishing gardens. You will be left smiling in amazement and admiration at each element of the garden that you see. The owner takes on the role of passionate and knowledgeable guide, directing you through this palace of greenery.
In one single place, you will find 10 gardens. The garden of garrigues with its well mounted in Falcon stone and its low walls, bordering the olive trees, through which you will walk to go from terrace to terrace; the small Japonese garden with its mini fountain made out of large pebbles, which poses an unusual yet calming balance; a path which zigzags through all sorts of trees, bushes, and groves (pause to read the names of each well-known, listed plant); and the vegetable garden where one can always discover new herbs.
Moreover, you will find the childrens' garden, with a hut and its little wrought iron fence, a tree house complete with wooden ladder... dream of the childhood days! There is also a big arbour made up of oak trees coming from the Puyméras mountain, surrounded by annual vegetable patches. At the end you will find a chicken coop and tortoise area (because, what is a garden without animals?).
Surprises come at every corner. A throne built for a giant in a tree stump; funny sculptures made out of all sorts of pots; round faces, smiling or grimacing, painted on old demijohns found amongst the flowerbeds.
The big greenhouse displays a collection of 1,000 tools that Jean Paul and Noëlle have collected on a bargain-hunt or on their travels.
Each plant has its raison d'être - chosen for this delightful garden with love and care.
