Event at Avignon :
The Orchestre National, conducted by Débora Waldman, performs on the Opéra Grand Avignon stage, accompanied by pianist Shani Diluka and students from the Institut d'Enseignement Supérieur de la Musique.
Music is the breath of the spirit, Lūcija Garūta once said. Originally composed for her instrument, the piano, her Meditation (1934) takes on a more epic, breathtaking quality when played by a symphony orchestra like the one in Avignon-Provence.
But the piano is not far away, and will even be brought to majesty by Shani Diluka in Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 (1786) and its prodigious adagio, where soloist and orchestra seem to meditate on the meaning of life.
A reflection that leads to a feeling of apotheosis with Tchaikovsky's Symphony n°5 (1888), an initiatory quest, a vast labyrinth that leads us from despair to hope, from unhappy and paralyzing resignation to the return of life and joy.
