Vaison-la-Romaine
Camus - Sartre, childhood mirrors' - Théâtre des 2 Mondes
Sunday 23 March 2025 between 8.30 pm and 9.45 pm.
Event at Vaison-la-Romaine :
The childhoods of Sartre (Les mots) and Camus (Le premier homme), told by themselves. Disturbing similarities, profound differences. Festival Off Avignon 2023 favorite. A literary bonbon, acid and sparkling, full of freshness.
"By Cliff Paillé, By Cie La petite étoile, Based on "Le premier homme" by Albert Camus and "Les mots" by Jean Paul Sartre. A show that contrasts the childhoods of Sartre and Camus, as told by themselves, the better to highlight both their troubling similarities and their profound differences. It's a kind of literary ping-pong investigation, gradually revealing who these two geniuses of the pen really were. Press reviews: Télérama - coup de cœur festival Off Avignon 2023. The Camus family too: "a play full of finesse and humor, a surprising and sensitive insight that touched me" Catherine Camus. The quarrel between Sartre and Camus was public, violent and ideological. But why so much hatred? Little Jean-Paul grew up in a plush apartment building near the Luxembourg Gardens. Little Albert in a poor district of Algiers. These are basically banal, universal childhoods, in which everyone can find their own. But made exceptional by their pens and their destinies.
